History of Maryland Limousine Association |
|
OUR HISTORY
For over a decade, the Maryland Limousine Association (formerly known as A.L.I.M.O.) has been serving chauffeured transportation providers in Maryland. Working through legislation that could adversely affect operators, establishing educational programs, bulk-buying programs for members and offering fledgling businesses a place to turn to for pertinent information. The MLA has helped strengthen Maryland’s chauffeured transportation industry. In the early 1990’s the limousine operators in Maryland found the need to join forces and work toward the common goal of the industry. This concept was alien to most and required barriers to broken down between competing companies to reach the desired out come. Through this new partnership, the ALIMO association was born and grew with popularity through out the industry in Maryland. Issues facing the association at that time were very the same as today such as airports, regulatory, licensing and laws. Taking on state and local government was a huge task at this time due to the fact our industry was in its infancy and very new to the controlling agencies. Our founders worked diligently to give the limousine industry its own identity and separate us from the taxi and bus transportation providers. In 2004, A.L.I.M.O. association went through a restructuring seeing the need to re-identify itself as the Maryland Limousine Association (MLA). The association saw this was necessary to better represent our entire state to fellow operators locally and nationally. Since this inception, not only has our local membership grown, but also the MLA has become synonymous within our industry, local and state jurisdictions! The MLA continues to be involved with state and national issues, continuing education for our members and community involvement.
To date, the MLA stands as the Champion in the State of Maryland for Chauffeured Transportation.
